Medicare Supplement Plan G vs. Plan N
Plan G and Plan N are two commonly considered standardized Medicare Supplement plans.
Both work with Original Medicare. Neither replaces Medicare.
What Do Plan G and Plan N Have in Common?
Both generally cover:
Part A coinsurance and hospital costs according to standardized benefits
Part A deductible
Skilled nursing facility coinsurance
Hospice cost sharing
First three pints of blood
Most Part B coinsurance
80% of qualifying foreign travel emergency expenses up to applicable plan limits
Neither Plan G nor Plan N covers the Medicare Part B deductible.
Plan G
After you satisfy the annual Medicare Part B deductible, standard Plan G generally covers the remaining Medicare-approved Part B coinsurance according to its standardized benefits.
Plan G also covers Part B excess charges.
In 2026, the standard Medicare Part B deductible is $283. Medicare amounts can change annually.
Plan N
Plan N also provides broad supplemental coverage but requires the member to assume some additional cost sharing.
Under standardized Plan N benefits:
You may pay up to $20 for certain office visits.
You may pay up to $50 for certain emergency room visits that do not result in inpatient admission.
Plan N does not cover Medicare Part B excess charges.
